Virgin Media logo London Underground Wi-Fi

At the start of 2012, as availability of Wi-Fi hotspot services was increasing across the capital, London Underground was facing great demand to provide passengers with a public Wi-Fi service. With around 3 million passengers every day, that’s a lot of people wanting to get connected.

Not to mention the challenge of incorporating 21st century technology into the world’s oldest underground system, with some tunnels dating back to the Victorian era. Well, during the Olympic summer of 2012, we answered commuters’ demands with Virgin Media. And it proved to be hugely popular.

With 8 million interactions during the Olympics alone – which included breaking through 1 million tweets, Facebook posts, emails and web pages on our Tube Wi-Fi network in a single day. The service has now been rolled out across a 250 station network.
