GlobalReach and Ruckus Wireless Win 2013 Global Telecoms Business Innovation Award.

Joint Project to Provide Smarter, High Capacity Wi-Fi along the River Thames Commended by Judges in Prestigious Industry Competition.

LONDON & SUNNYVALE, CA – 04 June, 2013 – GlobalReach Technology (www.globalreachtech.com), an innovative software supplier of Wi-Fi, cloud- and IP-based policy management services and Ruckus Wireless, Inc. (NYSE: RKUS), a global supplier of advanced wireless systems for the rapidly expanding mobile Internet infrastructure market, have been announced as a 2013 Global Telecoms Business Innovation award winner in the wireless network infrastructure innovation category.

The joint project involving GlobalReach and Ruckus, which provides high-speed wireless services to users along the River Thames, was recognised by the Global Telecoms Business judges as an outstanding project that delivers smarter, high capacity Wi-Fi to users.

GlobalReach has deployed their advanced Policy Management software solution together with carrier-grade Ruckus Smart Wi-Fi ZoneFlex™ products for its hotspot infrastructure, along 27 miles of the River Thames and onboard Thames Clippers London River Ferries, to support more than 30 million people accessing the river each year. The GlobalReach network operation centers provide centralised administration and remote management of the Wi-Fi service. The project addresses the explosive demand for reliable, high-speed data access in densely trafficked areas around the city, providing one of the world’s largest outdoor mesh networks along a key transport route through the UK’s capital.

British Telecommunications plc (BT) and the Transport for London (TFL) authority have already begun using the Wi-Fi infrastructure.

“This award recognizes our commitment to and ongoing success in delivering smarter, high capacity carrier-grade Wi-Fi infrastructure at a much lower cost, and reducing the time to market for service providers and enterprise customers,” said Nigel Wesley, CEO of GlobalReach Technology. “It allows them to focus on monetisation and bring increased value to the subscriber experience.”

Wesley continued, “With its adaptive antenna technology and high-capacity designs, Ruckus has clearly differentiated itself by delivering one of the most reliable, high-performance systems on the market that are distinctly designed for carriers. We have seen a significant increase in signal strength using their Smart Wi-Fi APs, as well as the number of concurrent users and sessions we are able to support at any one given time.”

Other joint projects in the UK involving GlobalReach and Ruckus Wireless include citywide Wi-Fi networks through Virgin Media Business that serve local businesses, residents and visitors in Leeds and Bradford.

Rob Mustarde, VP of Worldwide Marketing at Ruckus Wireless, said, “The carrier market requires a new class of Wi-Fi built for capacity and reliability. Ruckus has clearly innovated in these areas, and winning this prestigious industry award with GlobalReach for the River Thames deployment is further proof of that.”

The Global Telecoms Business Innovation Awards, established in 2007, recognize innovative projects in the telecommunications industry globally, involving service providers and their technology suppliers.

GlobalReach has deployed carrier-grade Ruckus Smart Wi-Fi indoor and outdoor ZoneFlex products for its public hotspot infrastructure along 44km (27 miles) of the River Thames and onboard Thames Clippers London River Ferries to support more than 30 million people accessing the river each year. In addition to providing public Wi-Fi access through its own Thames Wi-Fi hot zone branded service, planned for Q1 2013, GlobalReach is leveraging its high capacity infrastructure to offer wholesale and international roaming services across the 27 miles of river coverage.

British Telecommunications plc (BT) gives public Wi-Fi access free of charge to all its BT Broadband subscribers via the white-labeled GlobalReach service to the Thames River network, while the Transport for London (TFL) authority is using the Wi-Fi infrastructure for private services such as real-time location-based information, tracking boats, network monitoring, timetables, CCTV surveillance and other services.

In addition, GlobalReach has selected Ruckus Smart Wi-Fi as the standard underlying technology for the City Wi-Fi services it provides for Virgin Media Business in both Leeds and Bradford.
