GlobalReach is Proud to support World Wi-Fi Day, 20 June.

World Wi-Fi Day is led by The Wireless Broadband Alliance, of which GlobalReach is a member. It is a global platform to recognize and celebrate the significant role Wi-Fi is playing in getting cities and communities around the world connected.

World Wi-Fi Day

It will champion exciting and innovative solutions to help bridge the digital divide, with Connected City initiatives and new service launches at its core.

The program will see the launch of the HOPE for Connectivity charter, directing the attention of cities, government bodies, fixed and mobile operators, technology vendors and Internet giants towards the critical influence and success of wireless connectivity in bridging the digital divide. It calls on governments, industry and public to recognize and celebrate the important role of Wi-Fi in socioeconomic development and to advance and accelerate affordable connectivity for the unconnected around the world.

The GlobalReach Wi-Fi RADIUS / AAA and captive portal platform is used by a number of large, free public Wi-Fi programmes around the world to connect citizens and businesses, enabling social development and access to information and digital public services.

As a technology supplier to international service providers, we aim to deliver an authentication platform that makes creating and setting up new Wi-Fi services quick and easy. We are giving our full support to the WBA’s HOPE for Connectivity charter, to bring Wi-Fi to unconnected communities around the world.

Vijay Sammeta, CIO of City of San Jose and Co-Chair of CCAB, who GlobalReach worked with to deliver seamless roaming between San Francisco and San Jose, USA said: “Affordable, sustainable broadband connectivity is the lifeblood of the city of the present, and of the future, transforming the way communities operate and improving quality of life. Even in San Jose, a recognized global hub of technology innovation, we have a lot to learn and a lot to do before we can claim full urban connectivity. I’d call on all stakeholders to participate in World Wi-Fi Day to address the issue of the unconnected in a meaningful, transformative manner.”
